The University of Michigan Detroit Center joined our summer photography camp for a day. The writer highlighted how our program, started by two U of M alumni, offers students an opportunity to learn photography from professionals. “We end up offering on the job training,” said Coach Sacred-Overstreet Amos. “After they finish this program, if I have jobs that come up, we’ll hire our students to shoot the event and we’ll go with them to mentor them.”

The Detroit Writing Room and Coaching Detroit Forward are proud to share that our students and coaches took home 12 Society of Professional Journalists Awards for their stories and photography published in the 2023 edition of Perspectives Magazine. The students took top spots for community reporting, health reporting, feature photography, portrait photography and cover design.
